Mighty massacrer king David tore his clothes upon learning his sons were all massacred. David's son had raped his daughter; David declined to redress her wound. A second brother kills the raper, leading to a stampede of panicked royalty and an exaggerated report of the killing.

Postjovial pawn Job tore his clothes upon learning his sons all got squished. His name rhymes with robe, and his story gets better!

Cowardly kleptocrat Jacob tore his clothes upon learning his dearest son was dead. Previously, Jacob's daughter had been kidnapped, raped, then imprisoned; disgracefully, jacob prioritized his reputation and relationships over the restoration of his daughter. His sons, having learned dad doesn't seek justice, hardly hide deleting dad's little dreamer.

"Then Jesus uttered another loud cry, and breathed his last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom."

The veil of the temple?

In ancient Jerusalem, in the infamous Second Temple, God's veil served to clothe his holy presence from prying eyes.

The veil was lifted for just one committed partner: the High Priest. (God got to pick him.)

The veil clothed the entrance to the holiest room in the temple. (Peeking under the veil was a shameless crime.)

The High Priest had to bathe, wear soft clothing, and bring gifts before slipping past the veil. (It was a private act. No one else was allowed to witness it.)

For absolutely everyone, including God's committed partner: Entering this clothed area without God's consent meant certain death.

The passion of the Father:

When his beloved boy dies, the Earth trembles, and God tears his only clothing in grief and sorrow.

God loves his Son's selfless obedience. God hates Jews endlessly manipulating evil empires into doing their dirty work.
