A simple pixel art animation of the Opera Game, a famous game of chess played in 1858. Following the checkmate, the animation continues into a strange abstract skit: The winning rook draws a sword from its entombing stone, revealing himself to be king. After the king whisks away the remaining pieces, queens begin sprouting from the board one by one, their arrival painting the 汉字 for heaven: 天 (tiān). Even after 天 is painted, the sprouting continues, eventually filling the board with queens.
